Septic - Title V
A Title V Inspection Report is good for two years and, if pumped yearly, a one-year extension may be granted. Records for all three pumps must be submitted in order to receive the third-year extension. A Certificate of Compliance, which is issued by the Board of Health, is good for two years from the date of final inspection. Information about the location of your septic system can be found at Engineering Office during normal business hours.
There is no guarantee how long a septic system will function properly, but the following tips can help prolong its life:
Do pump; it is recommended every two years or more if needed.
Do use liquid laundry and dishwasher detergent. Please use bleach sparingly.
Do laundry each and every day, spreading out loads (no back to back). Run the dishwasher when not doing laundry.
Do take quick showers.
Do repair leaking faucets and toilets.
Do not be a Saturday laundry person. Spread your loads out during the week.
Do not throw grease down the drains / toilets.
Do not wash paint brushes or dump extra paint in sinks / drains.
Do not pour chemicals; i.e., drain cleaners, cleaners, turpentine, paint thinners, pesticides, or other harsh chemicals down the drains / toilet(s).
Do not empty shop vac or rug shampooers down the drain / toilet.
Do not add any septic system additives to your system.
Do not connect a sump pump to the drains. Put it out in the yard.
Do not drive motor vehicles or heavy equipment over your system.
Do not put in a garbage grinder or water conditioner in your home if the system is not designed for it.
Do not use the toilet as a waste basket. No baby wet wipes, Q-tips, tissues, dental floss, diapers, sanitary products, etc.
It is recommended to use white toilet paper, no dyes, additives.
