Part of keeping a water system operating well requires periodically flushing hydrants. Hydrant flushing moves stagnant water that is trapped between valves and the hydrant. It plays an important role in maintaining water quality, reducing corrosion, exercising valves, and maintaining chlorine residual in the system.
When flushing occurs, we are moving a large volume of water very quickly. This will cause turbulence in the system. You may experience low pressure. The discolored water is bacteriologically safe and will not harm you. We suggest that you flush your toilets several times or run your faucet(s) until it clears. Please clean all screens at your faucets and washing machines.
