On January 20th, 2015 WPD in conjunction with the Hampden/Wilbraham School District conducted an annual Crossing Guard training. The training consisted of the following:
Scanning Procedures
Extended Gaps in Traffic
Traffic Gap Selection
Entering a Crosswalk
Stopping of Far-Side Traffic
Verbalization of Crossing Commands to Children
Post Crossing Scanning
The crossing guards were also provided with updated Class 2 ANSI colored jackets, vests, and gloves for better visibility. Additionally School Resource Officer Dan Menard will be visiting schools to discuss crosswalk safety and procedures with students.
